The Expert Voice Podcast – Episode 7 James Curzon and Ryan Vaughan

Welcome back to the final ever episode for our university podcast. We’ve managed to record 6 episodes with various people in the coaching world in which I hope you have enjoyed and taken something from them. Myself and James had never done anything like this before and was our own idea to use this podcast format to help reflect on ourselves as coaches for our university assignment and also to provide high quality discussion points with great coaches for who ever wanted to listen! We cant thank people enough who gave us feedback, sent in questions or just even listened! it made all the hard work worth it.

In this episode we decided that the best way to end it was with a discussion between Myself, James McGown, James Curzon and Ryan Vaughan. Me and James Mc help with coaching in the pre-academy at Preston North End whilst both James Curzon and Ryan both coach in the academy working mainly with the U12s but also working between the age groups of 12-16. We talked over various topics based around general coaching whilst also asking them about how they overcame certain experiences and how they got to where they are today. I think this is well worth a listen as it covers topics for al types of coaches and how four coaches with different philosophy’s go about their coaching.

I think personally this discussion helped with me clarify that I’m on the right path and gave me confidence with what i already know and what im doing with the pre-academy. Both mine and James’ goals are to be working in the academy so it was excellent to get insight into what journey these two took and how that might be similar or different to ours. With that being said you will notice in the podcast that all of us took a different route to get where we are today and that there is not a certain way that young or new coaches need to act to reach academy football. Its all about being creative and having your own ideology with who you coach, as long you know what you are doing and can justify why then you’re doing the right thing!

Again thanks to everyone who has listened and engaged with myself and James based around the podcast. We have come to the end of our final year as university students and therefore can hand this assignment in. Both myself and James are looking to do our Masters Degree and will potentially end up carrying on the podcast going into next year, focusing on making it look and be more professional. I hope anyone who has listened or read any of the posts has taken something from it, as that’s what this is all about!
